Issue 4 cover photo: armed teacher

ISO 800, aperture 4.0, and a shutter speed of 1/250th of a second

This picture was a combined photo made up of multiple different pictures, like a panoramic. I took this image with a 70-200mm lens. It had rained that day so we used the neatly colored fence for the background, but normally when doing a picture like this you would want a picture with more depth of field (have more in the background). This picture is made up of nine different photos combined into one using photoshop! The nine images consisted of one in the top left, top middle, top right, middle right, the middle, middle left, lower left, lower middle, and lower right. Also, we set up a flash on a light stand close to the subject and facing down (the slave flash) and there was a flash on my camera (the master flash) that was triggering the other flash. I stood across the street when I took these images that became one. I really love the lighting and the red apple. The gun pops as well!! This picture was cropped to where the subject was to the right so that the newspaper could have room to have space for a text box.

ISO 800, aperture 4.0, and a shutter speed of 1/250th of a second

The only difference in this image from the panoramic picture is that it was taken with a 50mm and it was just a single image. We also repositioned her hand so you could see her manicure better!

This cover photo is supposed to show the newspaper's view on armed teachers. The newspaper staff wanted a female teacher armed with a gun. We used Mr. Smith's gun and we found a teacher that would be comfortable with a gun on their hip. The apple and notebook/bag was to show she was a teacher, and the manicure and just her outfit makes the point that she's a female. I really enjoyed this cover photo because it wasn't done in the studio! It's something different than all of the other cover photos I've taken this year! Plus this teacher gave Smith, Caroline, and I hot chocolate afterwards!!!
